Change to the temporary law allowing video witnessing of wills

The UK Government has not renewed the temporary law allowing video witnessing of wills, introduced during COVID-19. From February 1, 2024, wills must again be witnessed in person, as required by the Wills Act 1837.

Many see this as a step backwards in modernising legal practices, adding complexity for clients and advisors.

The legal community is now debating how to balance security with the convenience of digital solutions in today's world.
